Summary of my thoughts on L2.0@mac

May 10, 2007

Wow ! It surprised me that I made it to the end.  My knowledge of computers has certainly been upgraded. I am more familiar with the computer terminologies, and more willing to try something new. I’m very glad to have had the opportunity to do this program, and yes I would be interested in another program if offered. My favourites: blogging, del.icio.us and bringing pictures and links into the blog.

Firefox

April 30, 2007

I was able to download Firefox without much trouble. I also downloaded a couple of Add-ons as well. I had a little more trouble doing the Add-ons, but I finally did finish it. I found the whole experience worthwhile, because it had a big learning curve for me with computers.

Mystery solitaire = Secret Island

April 27, 2007

My second choice for playing a game was Mystery Solitaire =Secret Island.  In this game you were asked to match items of semilar value, or objects that went together. In doing so you received points taking you to the end of each round. After doing a required amount of rounds you had to hunt for buried treasure in the water, if successful you received a section of map for the island and you continued to explore and play. I found this game to be a little more challenging  and a purpose to it. You had to have speed and strategy, plus problem solving skills, maybe thats why I enjoyed this one more.

Gaming & virtual environments

April 27, 2007

In the gaming and virtual environments I went into Big Money and started to play it. I found that the first level was too easy so it asked me to go to the second level. I did so, but then I found that my hand and eye coordination was not as good as I would have hoped for. You have to remember I really have never played computer games. I found that you had to have some kind of strategy in the game which I didn’t have, therefore my scores were not very high and the game would be over. It was not relaxing to me at all. I found it frustrating.

Low cal. veg. dip

April 18, 2007

Finally back to my original theme “Food”. One of the recipe that everyone asks for is a vegetable dip that can be used with chips or vegetables. This is totally made from seasoning and vegetables.

Your main ingredient is chick peas plus any or all of the following ingredients in quantities that are to your taste.  Some BBQ peppers, parsley, black pepper, salt, lemon juice, lemon zest, extra virgin olive oil, and jalepeno pepper.

Place all of the above in a food processor and pulse it.

Your dip is now ready to serve. Enjoy.

Social Networks

April 16, 2007

I had a lot of trouble signing on to MySpace for this weeks activity. It needed a very unique  MySpace name, and for some reason everything I was trying was already taken. When I did get in, I found that there was to much advertising, and pop-ups for me to enjoy using it. I was not very inpressed by it.

I also went in and tried Facebook. There I was able to sign in with know trouble. I found Facebook to be better. Simply because it is more user friendly to me anyway. I enjoyed finding work friends and inviting them into Facebook.  Others also have invited me into their groups.  I searched for classmates of mine, but was not able to locate any so far, maybe because its something for the younger generation. Oh well. I also added and avatar and a couple of pictures in my album.  In summary I don’t think that I would use this other then to find someone (old friendships, or classmates)

LibraryThing

April 5, 2007

This week the activity I choose to explore was LibraryThing. I found this to be very user friendly simple because I didn’t have very much trouble with it. I was able to tag, and rate the books as well as finding out what other readers with the same interest are reading. Great to know.

I found Flickr to be very troublesome. Not giving up just yet but I am getting close. I seem to be having problems getting the picture from Flickr and  placing it into my blog , but thanks to Alex we did it. Otherwise I don’t think I would have known how to do it.

Wikis

March 8, 2007

I feel overwhelmed by all of this new technology. Maybe if we had more time to do the assignments the programme would be better. I find that we are rushed. After trying both I found PBwiki to be easier to use.

RSS

March 1, 2007

Most workers are taking part in a program given by the library. Each week we have an assignment with homework. This week I had to create RSS feeds in Bloglines. I found it to be very cumbersome, and had to work together with some of my co-workers in order to get it done. At this point I find it ackward simply because I don’t know what all the tabs can do. Hopefully I will become more knowledgable and soon!

Welcome to my kitchen

February 19, 2007

After many years of cooking and baking I find one recipe that always is in the back of my mind.

The Happiness Cake

1 heaping portion of true love

1 heaping cup of perfect trust and confidence

1 heaping cup of tenderness (the most tender available)

1 heaping cup of good humour (a little extra won’t hurt)

1 tablespoon of good spirits (the more spirited the better)

Blend with:

1 heaping cup of unselfishness

A dash of interest in all He does

Add:

1 good helping of work – to avoid this would spoil the flavour.

Mix all ingredients with a pint of sympathy and understanding combined. Flavour with loving companionship. Bake well all your life. Frost with kisses, fond hopes and tender words. This cake keeps well and should be served often.
